LETTERS to THE USA

By: Sònia Meseguer
Some months ago, we contacted a group of boys from New Jersey. Helena, our English teacher, has a friend there who teaches Spanish. They agreed to make a mail exchange among students. They would write in Spanish and we would write in English, so we would practice the languages we are studying. All of them sent a letter about themselves. We replied doing the same.
We were not sending e-mails, but letters (you know:  envelope, piece of paper, and a stamp). This means that replies reached their destination after some days. Some weeks later, at English class, we had a kind of picnic with a beverage they sent us and some biscuits from Helena and Olga, the English teachers, we took some photographs and sent them to New Jersey, along with some boxes of Spanish nougat candy.
We all liked this idea of mail exchange. At a personal level, I’m sure it is a very interesting experience.
